Last week at Nerdageddon Comic Con Chris Barrie showed fans that stepping back into Gordon Brittas’ shoes will come easy for him, when recording a clip for fan Shaun Shears.
Shaun is a singer songwriter who suffers from cerebral palsy. He says about Chris’ recording “I met Chris Barrie at a Comic Con in Southampton. I was there to promote my music and my charity show for emerging artists etc in aid of scope.
Much to my surprise Chris acted as his famous comic persona Mr. Brittas. It was a shock to be ab libing with Chris as I dreamt as a youngster of being involved with such cool characters Mr. Brittas and of course Rimmer in Red Dwarf. Who knows maybe Chris will look me up if they need to dress someone up as an alien in Red Dwarf or maybe son of Hollie! It was a great laugh and a dream come true having someone with such a loyal following promoting my music and upcoming charity work. Mr. Barrie was so humble and genuine I’d like to thank him for a truly unforgettable experience. He’s done a huge favour for my music and charity work.”
Talking about his music and work Shaun says: “I’m a singer songwriter with arthritis and cerebral palsy, not that it should matter, what should matter is that everything I do comes from a place of truth. This is what it’s all about, songwriters or any artists are performers to entertain their audience. The best artists in all genres are the ones that can have a connection with there audience through themselves and there art. Despite my disabilities, this is what I try to achieve. I taught myself how to play arthritic piano and harmonica and anything I could despite my limitations. I’d like to prove severe physical disability can be marketable and more than a pity case and address everyday issues that disabled and non disabled people face everyday! I play harmonica and piano compose lightly from these then perform via iPod and sometimes with iPod and jam band.”
